Okay moms and moms-to-be, we’ve got a super great reason for you to fall in love with the 2014 Toyota Highlander.

First, just in case you’re unfamiliar with the Highlander, allow us to introduce you.

Originally launched in 2001, the Highlander has been a force to reckon with in the midsize SUV market. In 2013 alone, 127,000 units of the vehicle were sold, aided in part by the fact that many families are trading up from sedans to midsize SUVs as their families expand.

That being the case, the good folks at Toyota have given quite a bit of thought to what a family might need and they’ve come up with some innovative answers. Here is one of the features we like the best.

Driver Easy Speak was tailor made for families. Since the Highlander has a dedicated third row with seats that recline and fold down to increase cargo space, it’s only natural that the kids are going to find their way all the way to the back to play. When that happens and mom (or dad) looks up to see something getting out of hand back there, he or she can just tap the Driver Easy Speak button on the touchscreen display and be connected to the third row via intercom– making it even easier to keep the kids in line with a stern warning.

SIDEBAR: As long as we’re talking about the back of the Highlander, we should mention that it has more than 42 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats. Need more room? Not a problem. The second row seats fold down too which increases your space to more than 83 cubic feet. The kids can build a pillow fort back there if you want. And, courtesy of Driver Easy Speak, you can tell them exactly when to take it down.

There are five different models of the 2014 Toyota Highlander to choose from including the hybrid version. Pricing starts at about $29K but the ability to talk to your kids in the back without turning around in your seat is priceless.
